Will this colt be the Sale's topper?
PREMIUM vendors Lauriston Bloodstock will offer a half-brother to Eureka runners Ripp and Sure Thing Captain which could be a sale topper at the 2025 APG Melbourne Yearling Sale on February 2.
But they also will offer four outstanding fillies from elite families which should have buyers lining up to check out the draft at the Inglis sales complex at Oaklands Junction.
Anne and Bill Anderson’s prestigious breeding program has produced some of the best pacers to race in Australia during the past decade.
Lauriston Bloodstock alumni include superstar mare Ladies In Red, Hunter Cup winner Honolua Bay, Chariots Of Fire winners Poster Boy and Maffioso and Victoria Derby victor Our Little General.
They have also produced a swag of juvenile classic winners, including Two-Year-Old Breeders' Crown Final winners Hurricane Harley (1.50.5, $726K) and Follow The Stars (1.53.8, $707K), dual Breeders' Crown Final winner Speak No Evil (1.50.9, $354K) and Two-Year-Old APG Fillies' Final winners Musical Delight (1.53.1, $248K) and Queen Of Pop (1.55.6, $204K).
The Musical Delight colt (Lot 27) is by boom stallion Huntsville, which has sired 82 winners of more than $4million in stakes from one Australian crop of racing age.
The colt is a half-brother to Ripp (1.50.4, $287K), Sure Thing Captain (1.52.1, $225K) and smart mare Beach Music (1.54.5, $153K).
Ripp and Beach Music are by Somebeachsomewhere, the sire of Huntsville, and Sure Thing Captain is by Captain Treacherous, a son of Somebeachsomewhere – so the cross definitely works well.
Anne said all five yearlings were excellent quality but the youngsters from Group One winning mares Musical Delight and Queen Of Pop would attract plenty of attention.
Queen Of Pop’s filly (Lot 42) by King Of Swing is a half-sister to NSW Oaks winner Just Hope (1.52.5, $376K) and Bathurst Gold Crown winner Chart Topper (1.52.6, $102K).
“We bred both mares,” Anne said. “They are half sisters.
“Musical Delight won the APG Final in 2012 and Queen Of Pop won the same race two years later.
“The colt is an outstanding type, and the filly is from the first crop of King Of Swing. I think there will be quite a bit of interest in his first crop of yearlings.”
Lot 39, a filly by much-loved sire American Ideal from Queen of the Pacific winner mare Pistol Abbey (1.55.6, $253K), is from a family littered with Group One winning fillies.
Pistol Abbey was a smart youngster but really came of age at four, winning the Queen of the Pacific and the Vicbred Mares' Final.
Her dam Art Princess won heats of the Bathhurst Gold Tiara, APG classic and NSW Sires Stakes before being placed in the Breeders' Challenge and Breeders' Crown Finals as a three-year-old.
Third dam The Kindly One won the Bathhurst Gold Tiara.
