Win honours late family member
EMOTIONS were at a premium in Cranbourne earlier this week.
Always thrilled to win with a stable representative, Taylor Ford had a more personal reason to wave her whip as Precious Belle crossed the line.
Ford's action was a tribute to her late cousin, David Medhurst, as the anniversary of his untimely passing approached.
"She has been racing very consistently, and I felt she was ready to win, but I was more hopeful than anything given the timing," Ford said. "Knowing it was close to the anniversary of my cousin's death, I just wanted her to win as a gesture to him.
"Once she hit the front, emotions got to me and I had to look up to David...that win was for him!"
Eased away from barrier seven, Precious Belle was settled at the tail of the field as Yering Soho dashed to the lead from gate six.
Gaining a three-wide trail along the back straight, Precious Belle sprinted to the front halfway down the home stretch to complete a two-metre win from Freak Out.
After working in the 'death seat', Black Tuxedo fought on strongly to be a head away third.
"Things couldn't have worked out any better for her," Ford said. "After getting a trail home she felt strong on the turn and I knew I had them covered.
"I was very pleased with the way she hit the line."
With nothing specific in mind for the daughter of Bettors Delight, Ford will "find the next suitable race and go from there."
