Youngster capable of matching famous dam
HE'S got a long way to go, but Claudys Hero is capable of matching the feats of his famous dam according to trainer Kyle Marshall.
An exceptionally-bred colt, Claudys Hero is by What The Hill from former outstanding mare Claudys Princess.
Proving herself as the best among her crop, Claudys Princess was successful in five Group Ones, three Group Twos and a pair of Group Threes before being retired with a record of 22 wins and 19 placings from 53 starts for earnings of $401,803.
Struggling to replicate her feats in the breeding barn, Claudys Princess only has two foals from seven attempts, with Claudys Hero her second progeny.
As for his pending assignment, Claudys Hero is poised to compete in Melton on Friday night, where he has drawn ideally in the pole over 1720 metres.
Runner-up upon debut on April 16, Claudys Hero has caught the eye in recent trials, with Marshall confident the two-year-old is ready to win.
"He's a pretty sensible trotter, so hopefully he won't be phased by drawing the inside and be able to make the most of it," Marshall said. "I'm aiming him for the Vicbred next month and this is a good starting point.
"He shows a lot of ability, and with time and experience, I can't see any reason why he won't develop into a very nice trotter.
"Whether he can match his dam, I don't know, but the potential is there and time will tell."
