Youngster seeking 'revenge' for dam
WELL-BRED youngster A Buck Ten will attempt to extract some revenge on behalf of his dam next week.
By Bettors Delight, the colt is from former top mare, Miss Half Penny.
Among the best of her crop, Miss Half Penny was successful at Group One level when triumphant in the 2018 New South Wales Breeders' Challenge.
Earlier that year, she was runner-up in the $328,000 Australian Pacing Gold Final.
Thanks to his victory at Club Menangle yesterday, A Buck Ten will tackle an APG Final at the world class venue on June 14.
"He's a pretty nice type," trainer Brian Portelli said. "He has shown potential from the get go, and although he has his quirks, he is coming along nicely.
"He's got a fair way to go to be measured against his dam, but he is heading in the right direction."
With Portelli in the cart, A Buck Ten led from barrier three before being eased to take a trail behind Belfast City.
Angled away from the pegs halfway along the home straight, the two-year-old regained the lead in the last stride to score by a half-head from Dynamite Dan.
Belfast City battled on to be three-and-a-half metres away third in 1:55.5 over a mile.
"That was his first run since he had no luck in the Gold Crown Final in late March, so he will improve between now and the APG Final," Portelli said.
"That said, he will need to improve as no doubt the others will be sharper again in the big one.
"I'll keep him ticking along at home and am positive he will be spot on for the Final."
